Weekend Fun

What a great weekend! The weather was beautiful and we had two busy days outside.

Saturday was the ATM picnic. We had great weather and got to spend time with other multiples families and connect faces with names. Our group is mostly email-only. There are mom's nights out, but I haven't had much time for that yet. It's a great group, but since there are no scheduled meetings or anything like that, we only have a few opportunities to get together. This was a lot of fun.

After the picnic we came home, changed gears...and clothes, and drove to the airport. My friend Jen was able to get out of dodge and come for a last minute visit. Dodge for her is Blacksburg, VA. She's a professor at Virginia Tech and really needed a couple of days away to get a breather from it all. Unfortunately, every time we turned on the tv, there was some sort of mention of the tragedy, but we stayed so busy, the tv wasn't on much at all.

I hope the short 36-hour visit with us re-charged her batteries. Although, most people's batteries would be depleted helping out with 4 kids ages 3 and under. In this case, it was a welcomed change. She and Austin were fast friends again. She visited last November during Thanksgiving and he told her, "Jen...you're my friend." Neither of them has forgotten that.

We spent most of the day at Stone Mountain Park. This is currently Austin's favorite place in the world. He was like her personal tour guide. We rode the train and he and Daddy rode the Duck Ride. We wore the kids out. After baths, they were wound tighter than a drum, but settled in pretty quickly and we haven't hear a peep from upstairs since.

Tomorrow, Jen has to catch a 6am flight back to VT. There will be lots of things to deal with. As a professor, she has to be one of the "together" folks. There are students to work with. Academics for the rest of the semester have to be figured out. I don't know how the Hokie Nation will come out on the other side of this.

I'm glad we were able to provide a distraction for a short amount of time. Pray that she, her colleagues, and all of the students will be able to process all of this and move on as soon as they can.
