The Loss of a Friend

I've mentioned my friend Debbie a few times on this blog. The last time was to acknowledge her birthday and ask for prayers for Jerry. He suffered a massive heart attack seven weeks ago and had been hospitalized ever since.

Yesterday, Jerry passed.

There were too many complications to fight and he decided to stop treatment. Many prayers were answered on his seven week journey in the hospital. It was a roller coaster of a battle. Ultimately, the last answered prayer was a peaceful, pain free passing.

His last day was a good one. He was in no pain, he was alert and he had no fear. He couldn't speak because of being trached, but he was able to communicate his thoughts clearly to Debbie. In many ways this was a true blessing to be able to share those last few hours together.

This will be a huge transition for Debbie as they have been together for more 15 years. Sorry Deb, I've lost count of exactly how many. She's a strong woman and will get through it, but she'll need our thoughts and prayers.

I'm glad to say that I've made arrangements to be there as they celebrate his life. Jerry is probably looking down grinning at Clif as this will be his first solo performance with all 4 kids.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to Debbie, Jerry's daughter and his grand kids. Peace be with you in the days ahead.

Dear L, C and family,
Thank you is inadequate but it is all I have to offer. You have been above and beyond what anyone could expect during what will surely be the darkest time in my life. Jerry was extraordinary in life and in death. Lynne, I'm looking forward to seeing you this week and the rest of the family very soon.
My love to all of you, Debbie
